Foundation Learning

Foundation Learning is a programme of support to help young people aged 16-19 bridge the gap between leaving school and finding employment, apprenticeships or further education.

Why is Foundation Learning important?

The programme enables young people take part in learning that will support them to achieve qualifications and progress to positive destinations at work and in life. Foundation Learning allows choice and flexibility.

Learning & Development

Five Lamps offers learners a personalised programme that enables them to undertake appropriate qualifications and activities for their individual needs.

All learners have access to a range of learning and development opportunities that include:

  • Functional Skills in English, Mathematics and ICT
  • Employability Skills
  • Personal Development
  • Health & Safety
  • First Aid
  • Work Tasters
  • Vocational Qualifications
  • Access to funding for PPE, interview clothing etc
  • Enrichment Activities inc, Volunteering and Community Projects
  • Additional Activities that build up confidence, fitness and team work

Careers Guidance

Throughout the programme every young person will have an appointed guidance worker who will provide high quality impartial advice and guidance that supports them from day one of their Learning Programme and continues throughout and beyond Foundation Learning in identifying and progressing to a positive outcome.

We will offer Mentoring and listening support for young people whose additional barriers may impact on their learning process and oversee their progress while on Foundation Learning.

Bursaries

Some young people may have access to a bursary to cover course related costs, for eg. Bus fares, meals, course materials etc. Contact the centre for the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility

The programme is open to young people from the age of 16-19 who:

  • Didn’t complete GCSEs at school or received low grades
  • Currently not in education
  • Available for a minimum of 12 hours a week
  • Are committed to gaining some qualifications to help them progress
