A ramp up of support provided by Five Lamps Care Assistant

Joan is 89 and lives in Ingleby Barwick; she currently lives with her family members after suffering from a stroke, numerous falls and impacted eye sight.

To help support her family members with Joan’s personal care and to help provide her meals, Joan was referred to Five Lamps Home Care team, by Stockton-On-Tees Borough Council.

Whilst on a visit to Joan’s home, Joan and her main Five Lamps Carer, Sammie Whitley were having a discussion about the sunshine and Joan mentioned that she would love to take advantage of the sunshine in her garden.

However, there was no wheelchair access to the rear of her property which meant Joan could not access her garden whilst in her wheelchair.

With this in mind, Sammie decided to go the extra mile for her Service User and that evening she posted a request on a local social media page asking if anyone had a wheelchair accessible ramp that they no longer used that she could possibly be considered for.

The post was a success and Sammie received a response and she went and collected the ramp for Joan. The ramp was then taken to Joan’s home and she can now access her garden and admire the sunshine on a regular basis.

Rachel Maughan, Five Lamps Home Care Registered Manager said;

“Sammie is an excellent Care Assistant who is a valued member of the team. This is proven in the way she has supported Joan and brought a little bit of sunshine into her life!”
